Pre-Event Meetings, Poster Launch & Press Conference

Several Pre-event meetings were organized to take inputs and discuss the structure of program. The Meetings were held at CSIR-CEERI, Jaipur Campus, Parishkar College of Global Excellence and Subodh P.G. College, Jaipur. Apart from that organizing team was regularly doing follow up meetings to review every aspect of the National Science Day Program.

Poster Launch and Press conference was organized on 25th February 2025 at Apex University, Mansarovar, Jaipur. Sh. V. Saravana Kumar (Secretary, DST Rajasthan), Dr. Khemraj Choudhary (Pro-Chancellor, Apex University) and Dr. Meghendra Sharma (Secretary, Vigyan Bharati Rajasthan) addressed the press conference regarding the state level Rajasthan Vigyan Mahotsav 2025.

National Science Day 2025 Celebration

Theme: Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science & Innovation for Viksit Bharat

Tagline: Empowering Curiosity, Bridging Knowledge, and Shaping Tomorrow

Dates: 27th– 28th February 2025

Venue: Apex University, VT Road Mansarovar, Jaipur and DST, Rajasthan Regional Centres

Organizers: Department of Science & Technology, Government of Rajasthan, in collaboration with Vigyan Bharati Rajasthan and Apex University, Jaipur

 Introduction

National Science Day, observed annually on February 28th, is a day to honour the remarkable contribution of Indian physicist Sir C.V. Raman, who discovered the Raman Effect on February 28, 1928. For this monumental achievement, Raman was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930. National Science Day has become a significant occasion to celebrate scientific achievements, promote scientific awareness, and inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators. It also serves as an important platform for fostering collaborations between the scientific community, academia, industries, and the government.

In 2025, National Science Day was celebrated with the theme “Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science & Innovation for Viksit Bharat”, which focused on encouraging young minds to take on leadership roles in science and innovation. The two-day celebration, organized under the Rajasthan Vigyan Mahotsav 2025, was held in collaboration with Vigyan Bharati Rajasthan and Apex University, Jaipur. The events took place at multiple venues, including Apex University and the Department of Science & Technology’s Rajasthan Regional Centres.

Objectives of the Event

  1. Celebrate Dr. C.V. Raman’s Legacy: To honor Dr. C.V. Raman’s groundbreaking discovery of the Raman Effect and his invaluable contribution to global scientific progress.
  2. Promote Interdisciplinary Collaboration: To facilitate interdisciplinary collaborations that can help address global challenges such as climate change, healthcare, and technological advancements.
  3. Highlight Rajasthan’s Scientific Development: To showcase the role of science and technology in Rajasthan’s socio-economic development, drawing inspiration from initiatives such as the Rising Rajasthan event.
  4. Encourage STEM Careers Among Youth: To inspire young students to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and to spark an interest in scientific research and innovation.
  5. Showcase Innovative Solutions: To highlight innovative solutions in agriculture, industry, and healthcare that can bridge knowledge gaps and provide actionable solutions for societal betterment.

Rajasthan Vigyan Mahotsav: A Celebration of Science

The Rajasthan Vigyan Mahotsav 2025 was designed to celebrate science in the form of a festival, creating a vibrant environment for scientific discussions and activities. This year’s event, organized on the 27th and 28th of February, had the overarching theme of “Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat,” highlighting the importance of homegrown solutions for achieving a self-reliant and developed India. The festival included various activities, exhibitions, conferences, workshops, and cultural events, which engaged students, educators, professionals, and the general public alike.

Day 1: 27th February 2025

Inaugural Ceremony (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM)
The celebration began with a formal inaugural ceremony. The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome song that set the tone for the day. Shri Madan Dilawar (Hon’ble Education Minister, Government of Rajasthan) graced the inaugural ceremony as Chief Guest along with Smt. Manju Sharma (Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Jaipur Urban) and Padma Shri Prof. Ashutosh Sharma (President, INSA & Former Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India) as Guest of Honor. The DAIS was also graced by Sh. V. Saravana Kumar (Secretary, DST Rajasthan), Dr. Ravi Juniwal (Chairman, Apex University), Prof. Somdev Shatanshu (Vice Chancellor, Apex University) and Dr. Meghendra Sharma (Secretary, Vigyan Bharati Rajasthan)

Distinguished scientists and academicians including Prof. P.C. Trivedi (Ex Vice Chancellor, JNVU, Jodhpur), Prof. K.K. Sharma (Former Vice Chancellor, MDS University, Ajmer), Prof. J.P. A major highlight of the inaugural event was the Inauguration of the Exhibition, which featured displays from Various Government and Private Institutions, State Innovation Council (SIC) Innovators, and student projects. The exhibition showcased cutting-edge research, innovations, and developments in various scientific fields. Students from schools and colleges actively participated in presenting their innovative models and research.

After the opening ceremony, a Hi-Tea session offered an opportunity for networking and informal discussions among participants.

World Record Attempt (12:00 PM – 1:30 PM)
A unique and ambitious event followed—the attempt to set a World Record for generating 25,000 volts. This activity attracted a mass participation where school and college students, using simple materials, built coin cell batteries. This event was conducted in hybrid mode, with participation from more than 50 locations across India, creating a unified scientific movement involving students from different parts of the country.  Around 1000 students participated at the venue itself and around 5000 students from more than 50 locations around the country participated in online mode which resulted in collectively generating 18,500 volts through 20,000-coin cells. The collective energy and enthusiasm of the students showcased the immense potential of youth-driven scientific endeavours.

Conference Sessions (2:30 PM – 4:30 PM)
The afternoon was filled with insightful Conference Sessions on emerging scientific topics. These sessions were attended by undergraduate and postgraduate students, faculty members, industry leaders, and even farmers, ensuring broad participation and engagement:

  • Session 1: Innovative Solutions for Agriculture and Rural Development – Focused on Smart and Integrated Organic Farming as a sustainable solution for rural development.

Around 600 Participants including Students and Faculty from Various Colleges around Jaipur. These sessions provided participants with the opportunity to interact with experts, exchange ideas, and explore collaborative opportunities.

Cultural Program (04:30 PM – 05:30 PM)

The Cultural Program held was a vibrant celebration of India’s rich cultural heritage, blending art and science in an engaging manner. It was an evening filled with various performances that captivated the audience, providing a break from the scientific discussions while celebrating the spirit of innovation and creativity.

The cultural program featured a series of traditional dance performances that beautifully showcased the diversity of India’s folk-dance forms, with a special emphasis on Rajasthani folk dances, paying homage to the rich cultural heritage of Rajasthan. One of the highlights was a unique role play segment where students performed dramatized sketches of renowned Indian scientists and freedom fighters. This segment not only celebrated the contributions of these iconic figures but also provided an insightful educational experience for the audience. Students portrayed distinguished personalities such as Kalpana Chawla, Mangal Pandey, Rani Lakshmi Bai, and Rani Durgawati, blending India’s scientific achievements with its historic freedom struggle. The performance effectively reinforced the message that both science and patriotism are integral to the nation’s progress. Additionally, a skit was performed by students, showcasing their acting talents and further enhancing the cultural vibrancy of the event.

Day 2: 28th February 2025

Run for Viksit Bharat 2047 (8:00 AM – 9:00 AM)
The second day kicked off with a Run for Viksit Bharat 2047, a symbolic event reflecting the aspirations of the nation to achieve self-reliance and scientific advancement by 2047, when India celebrates its centenary of independence. Around 700 students from schools and colleges along with faculty and others participated in the Run. The run brought together people of all ages, emphasizing unity and collective action toward a developed India.

Activity Sessions (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM)
Various activities were organized throughout the day, targeting different groups, including students and teachers:

  • Drawing/Poster Competition: School students participated in a science-themed art competition, expressing their creativity while exploring scientific concepts. Around 110 students from various school participated in Junior (class 6th-8th) and Senior (class 9th-12th) categories.
  • Hands-on Workshop on Coding, AI, and Problem-Solving Challenges: Students and teachers from schools with Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) were given a hands-on experience of coding, artificial intelligence, and innovative problem-solving. Around 200 students in team of 4 each from various school participated in Junior (class 6th-8th) and Senior (class 9th-12th) categories.
  • Project Workshop: School teachers participated in a project-making workshop, learning how to guide their students in preparing science projects for future competitions.

Popular Talks and Shows (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM)
Several engaging sessions kept participants captivated:

  • Talk on Science & Spirituality: “Marm Chikitsa” focused on the intersection of science and spirituality, exploring ancient healing techniques through a scientific lens.

Science Quiz (12:00 PM – 12:30 PM)
An on-spot Science Quiz was organized just before the closing ceremony for school/ college students, present in the dome for testing their knowledge of landmark scientific discoveries and fostering curiosity about the world of science. Around 50 on spot prizes were given to students who gave correct answers.

Closing Ceremony (12:30 PM – 2:00 PM)
The event concluded with the Closing Ceremony, which started with the lighting of the lamp. Sh. Rao Rajendra Singh (Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Jaipur Rural) graced the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest. The DAIS was also graced by Prof. J.P. Sharma (Former Vice Chancellor, MLSU, Udaipur), Prof. Sandeep Sancheti (Former Vice Chancellor, SRM Institute of Science & Technology, Chennai), Dr. P.C. Panchariya (Director, CSIR-CEERI, Pilani), Sh. V. The ceremony celebrated the achievements of the participants, with awards and recognitions handed out to the winners of various competitions such as Drawing/Poster, Quiz, Science Model Exhibition, and Student Innovation Festival and along with the DST Initiative KARYA Scheme and Rajasthan State Innovation Awards. The ceremony marked the culmination of a successful and enriching two-day celebration.

Astro Night

An added attraction during the National Science Day celebrations was the Astro Night, held from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM during three days (26th-28th February 2025) at City Pak, VT Road, Mansarovar, Jaipur. This stargazing event allowed participants to explore the cosmos through telescopes and experience the wonders of astronomy.

Conclusion

National Science Day 2025 was a grand celebration of India’s scientific heritage and its forward-looking vision for innovation and development. With its engaging mix of exhibitions, talks, workshops, the event succeeded in fostering a spirit of curiosity and scientific exploration. By involving students, educators, and the public in meaningful activities, the celebration effectively aligned with the theme “Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science & Innovation for Viksit Bharat”.

The event was a fitting tribute to Sir C.V. Raman’s legacy and demonstrated the power of science and technology in shaping the future of India. Through collaborations, knowledge sharing, and hands-on experiences, the National Science Day 2025 event set the stage for a scientifically empowered and self-reliant India, in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat.
